The Sketchbook Project is a global art project, run by the Brooklyn Art Library in New York, USA. It is the largest collection of artist sketchbooks in the world, with over 50,000 sketchbooks made by over 30,000 creative people from countless different countries. Description: For the pages of this sketchbook I have chosen to draw simplified, contemplative seascapes inspired by some of my travels in previous years. Ornamental scroll patterns are superimposed over the skies, referencing daydreams, reveries, and peaceful interludes.

SALA Festival 2017 Exhibition

2017 08 01 - 2017 08 31: The Nature Tour Exhibition
Picture
Picture
As part of the SALA Festival 2017, artworks by Wendy Sysouphat were on display in an exhibition entitled The Nature Tour at Angas Travel, Adelaide, from Tuesday 1st August to Thursday 31st August 2017.

Included were watercolour and ink paintings, oil paintings, a variety of drawings, some textile artworks, and some recent computer graphics drawings. As well as original artworks and fine art prints there was a slide show of many of my works going back to about 1990 like an 'art retrospective'.

The artworks were inspired and informed by life experiences such as the glorious colours and enchanting fragrances of flowers and plants, the elegance and power of nature, the diversity and intricacies of landscapes, and the elusive and indefinable feeling of 'joie de vivre'.

Above is the exhibition Flyer, and the second photo shows artworks entitled Butterfly Skies IX-XII 2017 that were displayed at the exhibition.

Many thanks to all those who supported this endeavour.

Wendy Sysouphat, Serenitatis 2000
2014 Fibreline magazine, Issue 157 September 2014
Serenitatis 2000, pictured above (see details on my Textile Artworks page), was published in ATASDA's Fibreline magazine, Issue 157 September 2014. This textile artwork depicts a serene view of Whyalla Foreshore Beach, South Australia, with the mangroves, Mt Young, and the Middleback Ranges in the background. The night sky includes a full moon, Pacific gulls, the planet Mars near the horizon, and a number of star constellations including Orion and the Southern Cross.

Wendy Sysouphat, Forest flight II 1999
2013 Fibreline magazine, Issue 151 March 2013
The textile artwork pictured above, entitled Forest Flight II 1999 (see details on my Textile Artworks page), was published in ATASDA's Fibreline magazine, Issue 151 March 2013. This artwork shows three dragonflies with shining, whirring wings on a high-speed flight through the forest. Particular attention is given to the patterning on these dragonflies, including the fantastically intricate venation of their wings. The forest is suggested by a few subtle leaves and vines, and by the slightly textured background fabric.

2013 The Largest Turner Ever
On 24 February, 2013, I painted three panels as a participant in this community art project, which was part of the Turner From The Tate - The Making of a Master exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia during Feb to May 2013. The completed 81-panel artwork, pictured above, was created by numerous community participants and measured 2.9 m x 3.6 m in size. It was inspired by one of the AGSA's own J.M.W. Turner paintings, Scarborough town and castle: morning: boys catching crabs, a watercolour that was painted in
c. 1810.

2012: Adelaide Festival Visual Arts Program: The Big Draw
I drew seven panels as a participant in The Big Draw community art project, which was part of the 2012 Adelaide Festival Visual Arts Program at the Art Gallery of South Australia during Mar and April 2012. This 66-panel charcoal drawing, pictured above in part while in progress, was created by numerous community participants. It was inspired by the AGSA's first acquisition, the oil painting Evening Shadows, backwater of the Murray, South Australia painted by H.J. Johnstone in 1880.

Wendy Sysouphat, The spice garden 2012
2012 - 2014: ATASDA Marrakesh Exhibition
The Spice Garden 2012, pictured above (see details on my Textile Artworks page),
toured Australia for two years as part of the ATASDA (Australian Textile Arts and Surface Design Association Inc.) Marrakesh Exhibition. This textile artwork is inspired by the bright colours and the spices for which the city of Marrakesh is famous, and also by the Jardin Majorelle, which is a beautiful botanical garden not far from the city centre. This artwork features in particular the spice plants ginger, cinnamon, green cardamom, black pepper, turmeric, and saffron.

2011 12 09 - 2012 02 02: Royal Institution of Australia Adelaide Reef Exhibition
Above, the upper two photos are some of my exponentially curvy corals, entitled Violet 2011 and Hope 2011, created for the Royal Institution of Australia Adelaide Reef Exhibition. The third photo is a large section of the reef on display in the FutureSpace Gallery at the Science Exchange, Adelaide, from 9th December 2011 to 2nd February 2012. This reef is a satellite of the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef project. This hugely popular worldwide community art project is an intriguing fusion of art and craft, mathematics, marine biology, and environmental awareness.
