About The Alphabet Book
The Alphabet Book has been created to nurture and support children and to inspire in them curiosity, originality, individuality, and self-confidence, as well as to be instructive, helpful, and entertaining. The carefully selected and meticulously researched subjects are alphabetically arranged and exquisitely presented to familiarize children with how the letters of the alphabet, both upper and lower case, are used in words. The book suggests many simple yet exciting activities that children of various ages will be able to participate in. Many intriguing points for discussion are raised by the author’s insightful and gentle use of open-ended questioning.
This book is suitable for children of any ages, with any levels of reading ability and varying powers of concentration. It is interesting in different ways for children of different ages, in fact, people of all ages and stages will find something here to enjoy, learn about, think about, and be inspired by. The book will generate thought provoking conversations with children as well as awakening in them a passion for observation and reading, and an enthusiasm for questioning, learning, and discussing. The book emphasizes each child’s uniqueness and the importance of individual choices, interests, and concerns. Due to the multi-level conceptual depth of this book, people will find more and more to reflect on and consider the longer they spend perusing these pages.
All the animals and plants are real species, represented simply and yet accurately. Their intrinsic value as part of the natural world is emphasized. An immense number of other subjects are featured, including aeroplanes, boats, hot-air balloons, planets, plates of interesting and often multicultural food, optical illusions, musical instruments, embroidery and many other art forms, seashells, diamonds, and recognizable landscapes. Concepts such as responsibility, gratitude, opposites, extremes, rhyming, kindness, shyness, sadness, and many others are addressed. A number of activities, sports, games, puzzles, and riddles are also featured. The illustrations have certain animals or other things that the reader is asked to search for and count - some items are more difficult to find than others! The readers’ powers of observation will be tested! There are two ‘magic eye’ stereogram pictures included in the book, which appear to be three dimensional and are quite captivating. Unexpected yet delightful elements such as these add to the unique and distinctive charm of this book.
Towards the end of this book there are two pages of notes containing extra information about some of the subjects featured in the book. In these notes, readers will also be able to find out the actual numbers of the various items they have been asked to search for!
